Healthcare for Traveling Abroad

Emergency Healthcare Abroad

The domestic coverage employees and their family are enrolled in with Sequoia is extended for use abroad only in emergency or acute care situations. Emergency care would generally mean your physical and/or mental health is in serious jeopardy, serious impairment to bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. Any services received abroad would be covered as out of network.

Travel Assist (aka Travel Aid)

TravelAid is a supplementary program that provides emergency support while you are traveling. It is a comprehensive program providing you with 24/7 emergency medical, security, and travel assistance (including emergency medical evacuation and repatriation) when you are outside your home country or 100 or more miles away from your permanent residence. Full details of service as well as any conditions and limitations are provided in the program description available upon request at TravelAid. It can be used for both personal and business as long as they are an active US employee. While there is no member specific ID card for TravelAid you can find details on how to use this benefit in the attached plan document. Additionally, for more information you can contact TravelAid/UnitedHealthcare Global at:
· Phone: 410-453-6330
· Toll Free: 800-527-0218
· Web:
TravelAid is only extended to dependents that are actively covered under the employee’s medical plan. Keep in mind, it’s not insurance it’s a travel aid that provides emergency support if their physical or mental health becomes impaired.

Independent plans available for purchase

While US employees have medical coverage, the extent of their coverage outside of the US is limited. Travel medical plans typically provide for the following:
Trip Cancellation, Emergency Medical, Medical Evacuation & Repatriation, Pre-Existing Conditions
Cancel for any Reason, Trip Interruption, Terrorism, Hurricane & Weather
Single Trip up to 6 months, Annual Travel
24/7 Phone, Web and Mobile
Generally, requires that individuals have a primary health plan
Other Restrictions and limitations apply, see website and policy for details
There are many insurers that provide travel medical for personal travel. If you would like to do personal travel outside of the U.S, here are a couple options below. Please note, these are out of pocket costs. Option 1: GeoBlue GeoBlue is one of Sequoia’s preferred carriers for Global Mobility plans and has their Voyager product which should fit for most individuals.  Please note that the plan is not available in some states. Obtain a quote directly from the GeoBlue website: The site is very interactive and includes product brochures describing the Voyager Plans and costs in more detail. Option 2: Squaremouth uses a comparison engine that allows travelers to search, compare and purchase travel insurance online.
