🏡 What to leave at home

𝙓 Prohibited Items in Residence Halls

Air conditioners, space heaters
Coffee makers. Each residence hall will be equipped with a K-cup coffee maker and electric tea kettle.
Electric skillets, grills, toasters/toaster ovens, rice cookers, slow cookers, steamers, hot plates
Microwaves & mini-fridges. Microwaves are provided. Mini-fridges are permitted if approved by the Disability Resource Center.
Extension cords. Instead, bring a power strip with a surge protector.
Flammables. This includes candles, incense, gasoline, fireworks and propane.
Barbecues, charcoal, lighter fluid
Halogen lamps, lava lamps
Furniture of any kind. No need to bring chairs, couches or futons. Rooms come fully furnished. Keep furniture placed away from electrical plugs so that the cords are not sharply bent or pressed.
Plug-in, decorative lighting. Holiday lights are only permitted if they are LED and battery-powered.
Personal Irons. Each laundry room will be equipped with ironing boards and irons.
Lofts, bed risers. Riser kits, blocks and bricks are not permitted. Only furniture provided by University Housing that is designed for lofting may be lofted.
Industrial cleaning solvents
Pets Pets are not permitted, with the exception of fish in an aquarium not to exceed five gallons per resident or 10 gallons per room.
Weapons. Air-soft guns, knives, slingshots, stun guns, BB guns, pellet guns, water guns, firearms, bow and arrows, ammunition, explosives or other weapons are prohibited.
Refrigerators, freezer units. One mini-refrigerator measuring approximately 33” x 18” x 20” with an internal freezer compartment is provided in each residence hall room.
Tobacco, cannabis or smoking products. Cal Poly is a smoke-free, vape-free, drug-free campus
Storage units taller than 48”. If you buy a storage bin before move-in, hang onto the receipt just in case you don’t have enough room. San Luis Obispo also has stores where you can pick up items after moving in: Target, Costco, Home Depot and Bed Bath and Beyond, to name a few.
