Background info
The biodiverse Valley here stands threatened by the proposed Etalin Hydro Electric Project. If the project is approved by India’s Forest Advisory Committee it will lead to the destruction of 270000 trees in this biodiversity hotspot. The old growth forests of Dibang Valley have been sustainably managed by the indigenous Idu’s unique culture of conservation. While science backs the extreme ricks this project poses to both culture and environment, local opposition to the project grows stronger.
